Today we spent some time doing experiments about water absorbency and looking at what materials are the best at absorbing water as well as which ones are the best for being water proof.  We have also been working on our basic facts addition facts to 20.  Next week we will start a calendar keeping track of the temperature for the day.  Please remember there is no school on Friday, January 31.

This week has been very busy at school.  In gym we have been working on our hockey skills with dribbling, shooting and passing.  In math we have been working on numberless word problems, as well as addition facts, subtraction facts and comparing numbers with a variety of manipulative and tools.  In inquiry we have been learning about the importance of conserving water as well that everyone in the world does not have the same access to clean water as we do here in Calgary.  Please remember that pizza and pajama day is on Monday.  Also there is no school on Friday, January 31.

We have learned how to play pyramid and greater than less than war.

We have been learning how to play Pyramid Solitare in Miss Miller's class and next week Ms. Yuki's class will learn how to play.  All you need is a deck of cards and know how to add to 13.  Here is the list of adding to 13 that you need to know, or write down on a piece of paper to help you.
1 + 12             2 + 11              3 + 10            4 + 9               5 + 8               6 + 7
7 + 6               8 + 5                9 + 4              10 + 3            11 + 2              12 + 1

Remember King is 13, Queen is 12 and Jack is 11.

Cold Weather Reminder

Remember to put on warm clothes for the classroom.  Also outside it is very cold.  Please remember to wear warm clothes to school for the next few weeks.  Don't forget your gloves, winter jacket, toque, winter boots, snow pants and a scarf!  Also please check the weather often to see what the temperature is expected to be and wear the proper clothes for that temperature.
